Wall work, Sleat Road Applecross. Commissioned by the City of Melville.
This work was comissioned by the City of Melville for Canning Bridge 2.0, a percent for art project. Five artists were selected to create and install new works in the precinct: Imogen Palmer, Darren Hutchens, Jessee-Lee Johns and Kyle Hughe- Odgers and myself. The overarching theme which linked the works together was "Hide and Seek".
My work was strongly influenced by research into the art deco aesthetic which was inspired by the several significant architectural examples in the area including the Raffles Hotel and Tivoli Theatre. The design features a geometric motif which takes on a faceted look due to the slight shifts in tone and colour used in the design.
The colours used, directly reference the adjacent environment:
Purples: Iconic flowering Jacaranda trees
Ochres: Land and river sand
Greens: Derbal Yerrigan/ Swan River
Greys: Built environment/ architecture.
